My Daily Constitution
My Daily Constitution is an art project of L.A. based artist Linda Pollack. “The idea,” says Pollack, “is to break away from the dynamics of the large lecture hall and create a space where individuals and communities can become active participants in a dialogue about our democracy. Our Constitution, our democracy, is about interpretation -- and interpretation means a collective, active dialogue, not just passive consumers and lawmaking producers. The U.S. Constitution is a living document, part of our quotidian life, influencing us in both large and small ways daily." For the campaign I used the concept of possession. In keeping with making the constitution an approachable subject I avoided the oft used reverent imagery and all-cap, serif type treatments so prevalent in when depicting a governmental subject matter. Instead, I opted for the imagery of a “sticker” being crudely placed atop reverent images of the U.S. Capital and the Constitution showing possession by the viewer.
